PSM or public service motivation is necessary to motivate employees to do their best work and maintain a tight connection between public-sector employers and employees. Based on the ambition to contribute to the good, PSM insists on the inherent good of selflessness, commitment to societal progress, and duty of character. Public employers can incentivize higher commitment and job satisfaction levels by aligning organizational purposes with an employee's sense of purpose. Techniques such as rewarding work, giving opportunities for rewarding work, and fostering cooperation can help reinforce this bond. A spirit of trust and common purpose is cultivated, and the entire organization's performance increases when workers sense that their contributions are counted.
Worldwide strikes and temporary layoffs are no longer rare – especially for medical professionals. Not only do they bring into the fore areas such as underpay, off-duty work, and unhealthy workplaces, but they also interfere with healthcare. Strikes remind employees that they are constantly being waged, treated, and placed in more or fewer numbers than they should be. Such conflicts have recently been fuelled by the COVID-19 pandemic, which also hit labor tensions and studies the history of union strikes in public health units. The strikes improved public service policy and wages in healthcare.
